Civil War Veteran - Enlisted at St. Joseph, Missouri, on March 1, 1862, and mustered into Company D, 5th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. Regiment attached to District of Central Missouri, Dept. of Missouri, to February 1863.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Grand River (August 1, 1862); Near Barry Section (August 14); Iron County (September 11); Liberty and Sibley's Landing (October 6); California House (October 18, 1862); Independence (February 3, 1863).

Regiment disbanded, the 2nd Organization of 5th M.S.M. was formed from the 13th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry, at Independence, Missouri, on February 8, 1863.

Enlisted on February 12, 1863, and mustered into Company D, 9th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. The Regiment was attached to the District of Rolla, Dept. of Missouri, to February 1863. District of North Missouri, Dept. of Missouri, to July 1865.

The Regiment was ordered to North Missouri and duty on Hannibal & St. Jo Railroad from St. Joseph to Hannibal and on North Missouri Railroad from Macon to St. Charles protecting roads and operating against guerrillas till March 1864.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Operations against Anderson's, Quantrell's, Todd's, Stevens', and other bands of guerrillas in North Missouri till April 1865. Skirmish in the Perche Hills May 5, 1865.

Duty in North Missouri till July. Mustered out of service on July 13, 1865.
