RUTH PITTS BAILEY
(August 04, 1912 - August 13, 2010)

Ruth Pitts Bailey, 98, of Atchison, Kansas, formerly of Rushvill, MO, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at Atchison Medicalodge Nursing Home.

Ruth was born Aug. 4, 1912, at her parents' home on southwest Bisel Hill Road in rural Rushville, Missouri on a Sunday morning, the daughter of Manley and Sallie M. Black Pitts. She attended Fairview Elementary School on Bisel Hill and graduated from Rushville High School.

She and Bernard S. Bailey were united in marriage on June 20, 1931 at the parsonage of the First Christian Church, Atchison, Kansas with Rev. Kellison officiating. Mr. Bailey preceded her in death in December of 1989.

Ruth was employed for 15 years with the Moody's Drive-In and then as a material cutter for Atchison Leather Products Company for 15 years until her retirement in the early 1980's. She was a member of Sugar Creek Christian Church, The Ladies Aide, of Rushville, Missouri, former member of Eastern Star, Dekalb, Missouri, she had also been involved with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Schearer Extension Club and Winthrop Extension Club and enjoyed bowling for regular bowling leagues as well as Senior Citizen's League of which she and fellow members traveled all over the country for tournaments.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by a daughter, Judith and her husband Ben Myscofski, Atchison, KS, a son, John Wayne and his wife Gloria Bailey, Rushville, MO, a brother, Wayne Manley Pitts, Texarkana, TX, seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and eighteen great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Bernard Manley Bailey in 1934, a granddaughter, Virginia Rose Bailey, two sisters, Bertha Helen Hiner and GeorgeAnn Starr and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Louise Bailey.

Services to be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at Sugar Creek Christian Church with Rev. Keith Hoover and Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 14th from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sugar Creek Christian Church or The Ladies Aide and may be left in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.
