Lavinia Cheesbrough-Lawes came to the U.S. with her parents, Edward and Emma in February 1882, on the White Star Liner, Britanic.

(This note is from Marian Lawes-Urbigkit on April 16, 1997)

Email from Freda Lawson in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, 1997 stated that, Edward Cheesbrough had been "blackballed" from the coal mines in England. He came to the U.S. to work in the mines at Carbon, Wyoming.

Edward and Emma loaned money from the sale of the UL Ranch at Elk Mountain to their daughter, Mae and her 1st husband, Julian Bowles to buy a ranch at Medicine Bow. When Mae and Julian separated, Edward and Emma's son , Joseph, and his wife, Anna Mae, took over the 5J Ranch at Medicine Bow. They were probably still paying off the loan from Edward and Emma when their son, Lester, bought the 5J Ranch from them in 1941. Lester sold the ranch in 1945. (According to Lester, in October 1998)

According to his son John's obituray, Edward bought the UL Ranch in the late 1880's.
