Died 18 Oct 1918 in France, from bronchial pneumonia, after being gassed (Oct 4) while in action, possibly at Pont-a-Mousson during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

Originally buried in French soil, remains returned to the US and re-interred in Arlington National Cemetery, VA (Section 18 Site 2103) date unknown.
