I found an article that this headstone had been changed in 1936 to reflect that my grandfather was from Illinois. When I requested a photo from findagrave this was what I was sent. I guess our government moves slowly.

After changing the headstone, our family found out from the first division museum in Wheaton Illinois. that our grandfather was eligible for the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Arlington changed the headstone again to reflect the awards.

This is the corrected headstone placed in April of 2011. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr and Dave Bakke of the Illinois State Journal Register helped correct the headstone to reflect Illinois.
