Ruth M Tress, 86, of Lower Burrell, died Friday, August 13, 2010.

Born February 28, 1924 in New Kensington to the late William J and Mary Grace Bowser, she was a 1941 graduate of Ken-Hi and helped during the WWII war effort by working at ALCOA before attending nursing school at the Unviersity of Cincinnati for two years and studied organ at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University).

Mrs. Tress was an organist, choir director, pianist and vocal soloist at the former Maranatha Bible Church in New Kensington before becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Upper Burrell Township. She served as a guest organist at a nubmer of churches throughout the Alle-Kiski Valley. 'Nana' was known worldwide for the best Christmas Cut-Out Cookies ever made.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, George A Tress; children, Robert Alan (Lynette Sue Forsman) of Enola, Pa, William Stuart Tress of Arlington, TX, Mary Carol (Charles) Keister of Olathe, KS, Timothy Mark (Donna) Tress of Jupiter, FL and Nancy Beth (Clayton Jr.O Russell of Coraopolis; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;

and brothers, Rev. William Joseph (Dorothy) Bowser of Columbus, OH, Rev. Richard Roland (Ruth) Bowser of Grove City, OH and Sherwin Bell (Patricia) Bowser of Kettering OH.

Visitation will be Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Ross G Walker Funeral Home Ltd, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, 724-335-1234.

A service celebrating her life will be held in First Baptist Church of Upper Burrell Township, 3740 Seventh Street Road, New Kensington on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Anyone attending the service is asked to go directly to the church.

Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.

Donations to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, Pa 15243 would be appreciated.
