Served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman/Sonarman. He transmitted the first report of hostilities at the beginning of the Korean War.

He died in the Veterans Hospital in Houston, Harris Co., TX following a massive stroke. He became the first international kidneys transplant doner. One of his kidneys was donated to a woman in Canada and the other kidney was donated to a man in the U.S. An article appeared in the Houston newspaper announcing the international transplant.
