Dr. Sheila Ruth Sheffield of Ochlocknee, Georgia, after a long battle with cancer succumbed on August 7, 2010. Dr. Sheffield was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Chester Harvey Sheffield and the late Ruth Stewart Sheffield on October 24, 1948.

Dr. Sheffield attended Alfred I. DuPont High School and graduated from Central High School in Thomas County, Georgia in 1966. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Valdosta State University in 1970 with a B.S. in psychology. She earned her M.S. in Psychology at Florida State University from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1972.

She received a doctoral degree in public administration from Florida State University in 1998 after having worked for a number of public organizations including the City of Jacksonville, Metro-Dade County Florida, The State of Florida, The State of Georgia, and The Florida State University. She earned several awards and honors including a National Science Foundation Fellowship for her Masters Degree at Florida State University, outstanding psychology student at Valdosta State, and membership in Pi Alpha Alpha, Alpha Chi, and Sigma Alpha Chi honoraries.

Dr. Sheffield worked as a Senior Research Analyst and professor at Florida State University from 1997-2009. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomasville.

Dr. Sheffield is survived by Madeleine Stewart Alred of Moultrie, Mickie L. McQuaig of Jacksonville, Bonnie Shuman Carn, Neil Carn and Lea Carn Long of Ochlocknee, Lindsay Gotshall of Panama City, and a number of Stewarts in the area. She expressed major regrets at leaving her beloved pets Button Joy and Cosmo Yawn Sheffield as well as Hop Sing Chops Sheffield. Her cremains will be caste over the graves of her father and mother at Bold Springs Methodist Church in Grady County in the U. C. Stewart Family Plot on August 21, 2010 at 10 A.M.
