Friends and relatives of Edward R. STUMP, citizen of the Waka community for many years, gathered at the Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon, for simple, impressive Funeral rites conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. B. Vaughn. Miss Ruby Neufeld was in charge of the music. She was assisted by N. G. Powell, Harley Elledge, Mrs. D. W. Hart and Mrs. Ray Burger of Waka and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Bolerjack, Mrs. W. E. Foglesong and Addison Cutter of Perryton.
Interment was in the Ochiltree Cemetery directed by the Wilson Funeral Home. The pallbearers were J. P. BERRY, Dave DUNNIHOO, Van Earl STEED, Alan DENNISON, Walter ELLEDGE and Emil MEIER.
Edward R. STUMP was born to Rachel Stoner STUMP and Solomon STUMP in Oceana County, Michigan, June 11, 1871, and passed away at the Perryton hospital after a short illness with pneumonia at three o'clock, Monday morning, February 21. He had reached the age of 66 years, 8 months and 10 days.
Out of a family of fourteen, five boys and four girls reached adulthood. Of these, one brother, Jno. N. STUMP, and three sisters have passed on. Those remaining are D. B. STUMP, Perryton, Sam STUMP, Texhoma, Oklahoma, J. L. STUMP, Range, Oklahoma And Mrs. Emma BURROW, Felt, Oklahoma.
In the fall of 1900, he was married to Cora LAIR. A son, David Francis, was born to them at Miami, Texas, and now lives in Clinton, Mo. Mr. STUMP was a Christian man, having been baptized several years ago, and was interested in Christian life and progress,
The greater part of his life was spent in this part of Texas and in the Oklahoma strip, where he pioneered in various projects. For many years, he has made his home in the Waka community and engaged in the mercantile business.
He leaves a large circle of friends and relatives who will miss his presence. Surviving relatives beside the son, brothers and sisters, are three grandchildren, and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and distant kin.
