He was born Dec. 11, 1927, to the late William Bodine Thomas and Mary Maxine Floyd Thomas. He graduated from Borden High School and served his country in the Marine Corps attached to the Seabees during the reconstruction of Japan after World War II. After his tour of duty, he was a truck driver for C.T. Hertzch Trucking Company in Sellersburg, from 1955 until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Alberta Bowers Thomas; sons, Richard K. Thomas, of Borden and Timothy K. Thomas and his wife, Karen, of Indianapolis; daughter, Carla F. Akers and her husband, Kevin, of Borden; grandchildren, Kyle, widower of Shelley, Kara, Alissa and her husband, Treves, Michael, and Ryan and his wife, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Noelle, Wesley, Alexis, Addison and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Boyd, Arland and Danny; and sisters, Betty Lou Scott and Mary Sue Balmer.
Visitation will be at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home, 225 West Main St., Borden, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
