Rev. Leonard L. Morris, loving father and husband, 86, of Denton went home to be with his Savior Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Rev. Morris was born July 14, 1911, in Krum, Texas to Thomas Epraim and Zula Smith Morris. Leonard L. Morris married Juanita Oliver on September 15, 1936, in Denton.
Rev. Morris attended public schools; Best Bible College in Pleasant Grove; Trinity Valley Baptist Seminary where he received a doctorate of divinity degree. He taught four years at Trinity Valley Seminary. Rev. Morris founded and has pastored Maranatha Baptist Church since 1966. He was founder and administrator of Maranatha Christian Academy for 20 years. Rev. Morris was active in the ministry for 45 years.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Denton; daughter and son in law Linda J. and Allen Knowles of Denton; son and daughter in law, Bobby G. and Carla Morris of Hemet, California; sister Virginia Collier of Reno, Nevada; brother, Bill Morris of Gordon; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; and his Christian Family of Maranatha Baptist Church and a host of Christian Brethren across the country. Rev. Morris was preceded in death by a son Tommy D. Morris.
Graduation to Glory; 11 am, Sunday, April 5, 1998, at the Maranatha Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Purkhieer officiating.
Graveside service will be 9 am Monday, April 6, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Formal visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight, Saturday April 4, at Maranatha Baptist Church.
Rev. Morris will lie in state at the church until the service.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Maranatha Church Missions.
