Rufus Whitaker, 81, Route 2 Eubank, died Sunday July 6, at Humana Hospital-Lake Cumberland.
He was born in Letcher County on June 27, 1905, the son of the late Henry and Jane Fields Whitaker. He was a retired coal miner and farmer, and a member of Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Crissie Caudill Whitaker, Eubank; five sons, Donald Whitaker, Spartanburg, S.C., Robert and Jim "Custer" Whitaker, both of Eubank, Dale Whitaker, Norwood, Ohio, and Reed Whitaker, Seymour, Indiana; a daughter, Sarah Jane May, Detroit, Michigan; three sisters, Roma Brock, Cindy Adams and Anna Bryant, all of Eubank; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Dorsie Jean Whitaker.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church with the Elders Lee Fields and Charles Tackett officiating.
Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Waynesburg.
