From The Iowa Alumnus – March 1915

"Alice Beatle, a former Iowa girl, has been decorated with the Red Cross badge of honor by Archduke Francis of Vienna in Budapest, Austria. The badge was conferred for Miss Beatle's service with the army in the present war. The nurse was formerly superintendent of the Homeopathic Hospital. She was in Cleveland, O., when the war began and went to the front from that city."



***The urn with Alices ashes was buried in the same plot with her husband Fred, but no separate grave marker was ever erected for Alice.***
