Charles Herbert Hatchell, local building contractor, died at his home 1022 North Fourth Street, yesterday morning after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Florence, S.C., June 23, 1897, the son of the late John Anthony Calhoun and Mottie Taylor Hatchell. He was employed by the U. A. Underwood Company for 25 years and entered the building field in 1947.
He is surveved by his widow, Mrs. Marie Ahrens Hatchell; one daughter, Miss Rose Marie Ahrens Hatchell of Wilmington; three brothers, J. Calvin and Frank Hatchell of Wilmington, and Randelson Hatchell of South America; one sister, Miss Annie Mae Hatchell; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Andrews Mortuary yesterday at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. J. Frank Davis Interment was in Oakdale Cemetery.
