"Azzie Lee Jones was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the youngest of nine children to Azzie Ophelia and William Lucius Jones. Her father died in her sixteenth year, and her mother when she was thirty. She was preceded in death by seven brother and sisters and a daughter, Patsy. She was a wife, helpmate, supporter, and business partner to her husband, whom she married almost sixty years ago, moving from Mississippi to Texas as newlyweds. While being a wonderful mother to three grateful children, she also mothered two very wonderful girls, as if they were her own, and they are our sisters. She enjoyed seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Azzie opened her heart and home to many foster children and others who just "need a second chance." She always cooked more than enough for her family, expecting others to join. She was known as a mother figure to many, teaching Sunday School and even volunteering as a counselor at the Travis County Jail. Known as what we now call a "Super-mom," Azzie was "Ma" of Ma's Wingless Angles where she sewed, cooked, cleaned, taxied, doctored and counseled troubled teenagers and young adults with selfless persistence, and oft times no sleep. A prolific story and letter writer, she wrote poems, stories and even a song. Wayne and Sherri named their singing group, Compassion, after the song title, singing her song in many church gatherings throughout the state. Azzie never threw away a letter or card. So, any secrets you may have written to her, well guess what, we now know them. Even when arthritis hurt her hands, she learned to use a computer to write and would email friends and relatives. Although embarrassed to admit it, Azzie even enjoyed surfing the web. Her writing skills were rewarded by publication in local papers, and election as the president of the Manor Area Christian Writer's Association. She loved birds of all kind and collected many bird figurines. There were many cats and dogs in Azzie's life. She never went out unless she was dressed well and really loved the "bling." Azzie was a life long devotee to the scriptures, reading the Bible over many times. And everyone she met walked away calling her "friend" for life...."
