On June 1, 1944, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Two years after his discharge from the Army, Truman met Ruth Speten of Clitherall and they were married on Nov. 9, 1947 in Henning. Truman was known by all for his humor and wit. He loved music, playing the guitar and accordion. Together, they enjoyed dancing and traveling. Truman was a member of the DAV in Fergus Falls and Henning VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Steven (Marlene) of Vining; daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Ranum of Henning; four granddaughters: Zhana, Polina, Jessica, and Ellie; two step-granddaughters, Michele and Kate; two step-great grandsons, Stephen and Isaac; two sisters, Crystal Anderson of Battle Lake and Alice Haile of Henning; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.
Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Folden Lutheran Church
