Alvin Sturgill, 74, of San Angelo went home to be with the Lord at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his home.
Service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Johnsons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Alvin was born Jan. 26, 1926, to Chester and Roberta Sturgill in Mexia, Texas. In 1936 they moved to Miles. Alvin was the youngest of seven children all of whom preceded him in death except one sister, Vivion Wellis. Alvin served in the United States Army in the 78th Lighting Division in Germany. He married Jenell Fowler on Aug. 30, 1945, in San Angelo. He worked at the Goodyear Proving Grounds until his retirement. He was a longtime resident of San Angelo and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife,JENELL STURGILL , three sons, Gary, Jimmy and Danny Sturgill, all of San Angelo; one sister, Vivion Wellis; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friend, Jerry Kennedy and his wife, Tommie; and pet, B.J.
Pallbearers will be Matt Gonterman, Trent Taylor, Roy Hernandez,DAN KENNEDY , Jerry Davis and Stanley McCullum.
