Daughter of Hillary "Heck" Curtis Jr. and Susan Blackshear. Hillary "Heck" Curtis Jr. was born 1828 in Jackson County, Tennessee. He died Oct 16 1899 in Pope County, Arkansas and is buried at Forks of the Creek Cemetery, Hector. Her mother was Susan Blackshear born 1832 in Tennessee. She died 1914 in Pope County. It is believed Susan Blackshear Curtis is buried next to her husband at Forks of the Creek Cemetery, Hector.

Granddaughter of Hillary Curtis Sr born 1795 South Carolina and Susannah Gulley born about 1797 Virginia. Both died in Pope County, Arkansas before the 1870 US census was taken. They are believed to be buried at Forks of the Creek Cemetery, Hector. Hillary Sr and Susannah are found on the 1820 & 1830 US census in Jackson County, Tennessee. By 1837, they lived in Tishomingo County, Mississippi and can be found in that county on the 1840 US federal census, the 1845 State & Territorial Census, and 1850 US federal census. They departed Mississippi for Pope County, Arkansas in time to be counted on the 1860 US census at Rock Hill post office, Independence Township.

Great-granddaughter of Moses Curtis born abt 1760 Virginia, died after 1830 US census taken in Jackson County, Tennessee; and Martha "Patsey" (maiden name unknown). Patsey was born in Virginia abt 1765. On the 1800 US census in Union County, South Carolina, enumerated are: 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26-44 (Moses Curtis), 2 females under 10, 1 female 26-44 (Patsey Curtis). John Goodwin lived next door; Moses & Patsey sold land to him on the 27th day of March 1801. Patsey Curtis, wife of Moses Curtis, relinquished her claim of dower in a Deed whereby Moses Curtis sold "...parcel of land containing thirty acres more or less..." "...in consideration of the sum of fourteen pounds" to one John Goodwin. On the 1810 US census in Union County, South Carolina, enumerated are 2 males, ages 10-15 and 1 male 45 & over (Moses Curtis). There is no female in the household; it is assumed that Patsey (mnu) died before the 1810 census was taken.

Although proof has yet to be found, it is believed that Moses Curtis was the son of Thomas Curtis who was born abt 1730 in Virginia and died after 1800 in Union County, South Carolina. Thomas Curtis would be the gg-grandfather of Mary Ann Curtis Petty of Pope County, Arkansas.
