Graduated from College of Charleston and admitted to bar 1835, moved to Barnwell, SC. Served in Florida War. In 1841, married Martha Ayer. Built the Oaks in Barnwell. Elected to SC Legislature in 1857 and Judge in 1866. Prominent in political affairs of SC until his death.
