John Milner was probably born in England. There are various sources however I will use 'The Practical Dreamer, (A Story of John T. Milner, His family and Forebears), by Dorothea Orr Warren, Published by the Southern Family Press, Birmingham, Alabama. John Milner II was born May 16, 1746, probably in England. In Portsmouth, Norfolk County, Virginia, in 1765, he married Elizabeth Godwin. The marriage date and place are from D.A.R. records. The original record has not been found and there are people who claim that the date was 1763. Elizabeth was born in 1749. She was fourteen or sixteen at the time of the wedding, and the groom was seventeen or nineteen. In that time and place a seventee-year-old boy--especially if he had been on his own since he was twelve and had made a success of it--might not only feel old enough but could really be old enough for matrimony. Nevertheless, nineteen does seem the more likely age. Revolutionary War Solder from South Carolina. Fought in South Carolina under Pickens and Sumter.
