Funeral services for Hazel Bertha (Sager) Chapman, 89, of Orchard, will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. from the Orchard Methodist Church, with Rev. Tim Bruegger officiating. Interment will follow at the Orchard Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Orchard Methodist Church Friday, Jan. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Ms. Chapman was born at home in Orchard on September 26, 1909 to parents Albert Sager and Ella (Hinsch) Sager. She graduated from Orchard High School. The former Miss Sager and Mr. Clifton Chapman were married in Needville in 1933. She was a member of the Orchard Methodist Church where she played the organ for many years. Hazel was a lifetime homemaker. She passed away Wednesday, December 30, 1998, in Katy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ella Sager; husband, Clifton Chapman in 1994; brother, William Sager; great-granddaughter, Taryn Ray; and son-in-law, Joe Kubes.
She is survived by her daughters, Anita Kubes of Orchard, Juanita Ray and husband, Jack Ray of Katy; sisters, Alma Buckalew of Orchard, June Grigar of Orchard; and five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Orchard Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Orchard 77464.
