James E. Rose,85,well known retired section foreman for the Santa Fe,died at Alvin Memorial Hospital at 11:15a.m. Monday,January 19,1970.He had been ill for the past three months.The Rev.Alvis Bell officiated at funeral rites held at 10a.m. Wednesday from the chapel of the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral Home in Bellville.Interment was at the Orchard,Tex,cemetery.Pallbearers were members of the Bellville Masonic Lodge.Mr.Rose was born at Lexington,Tex.Lee County,February 11,1884,and attended school there.He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellville,the Mason Lodge of Rosenberg,and was highly esteemed by many friends.Surviving are his wife,the former Miss Ethel Wall;three daughters,Mrs.Virgie{Lois]Phillips of Alvin,Mrs.Gladys Cuzzort of Baytown,and Mrs.Altha Jackson of Galena Park;six sons Ernest,Edward and Vernon Rose of Alvin,John Calvin and Mason Rose of Texas City,and Barney Rose of Rosenberg;three sisters,Mrs.Lina Alford of Rockdale,Mrs.Naomi Tyler of Texas City,and Mrs. Oma Clampett of Dallas;four brothers,Will Rose of Rogers,Dewey Rose of Rogers Griffin Rose of Houston,and Ernest Rose of New Orleans;20 grandchildren,and four great-grandchildren.
