Benjamin Kimbrel, age 17, son of Mrs. Phoebe Kimbrel of Winter, a member of the Senior class of the Winter High School, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 3, from injuries he received when struck by a car on Hwy 70 near the Ojibwa Roadside Park where he and fellow students and teachers of the Winter Schools were attended a youth center wiener roast.

He was born in Loretta on April 7, 1935, and moved to the Winter community in 1940 and had since attended school.

Benjamin was very active in all school affairs, having served as Junior class president in 1951, manager of the basketball team in 1951, high school baseball team manager of the 1951 team, and also took an active part in forensics and class plays.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Phoebe Kimbrel of Winter; two sisters, Dorothy of Chicago and Delores of Winter; two brothers, Donald and Richard of Winter, and his maternal grandfather, Walter Knowles of Draper.

The remains lay in state at the Anderson Funeral Chapel in Hayward until Monday forenoon when the body was removed to the Presbyterian Church in Winter, where funeral services were conducted at 2PM with Rev. AR Lundberg, pastor of the Winter Evangelical Free Church, officiating. Interment was in the Winter Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his classmates, Frank Kies Jr., Robert Aken, James Dombrock, Arthur Thorbjornsen, Joseph Haske Jr., and Edward Silack. The Winter High School students attended in a body.
