BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL, BEDFORD, INDIANA, FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 1902

IN MEMORIAM.

Mrs. Mary C. Thompson, wife of Solomon Thompson, died of cancer at her home on North J St. last Thursday afternoon, June 12, at 5 o'clock; age 46 years, 1 month and 14 days. Burial at Green Hill cemetery Saturday forenoon at 10 o'clock.

She was born in Jackson County, Indiana, April 15, 1856, where she spent her childhood and early life; moving to this city with her present husband. She untied with the Methodist church at Houston, Indiana, at the age of fourteen years, to which she removed her membership to Bedford a few months ago, but was deprived of worship at the sanctuary on account of her long illness.

She was untied in marriage to her present husband, Solomon Thompson, April 8, 1890, to which union was born one child which died in its infancy. At their marriage there were three children of her own, and six step children. Two of her children and all of the step children still survive her. One, Mrs. W. P. Harrell, having departed this life May 1st, 1901.

She was always ready to offer a kind word to all. A gentle and loving mother and wife. To all of her children she was always ready to offer sympathy and help forgetting self in her many deeds of kindness.

For months she has been gradually growing worse but on account of the nature of the disease was called away very suddenly. Everything was done to relieve her, but when the Great Father of all calls, there is nothing done by mortal hands that can keep our loved ones here. She was willing and ready to go at any time.

Her many friends and neighbors always loved and respected her. No one ever met her but to know her as their friend. To everyone she could help she was ever ready to give assistance.

By her death the husband loses a kind and affectionate companion, the children a gentle and loving mother, the community a generous friend, one who always had the good of all at heart.

"One by one earth's ties are broken, As we see our love decay;
And the hope so fondly cherished, Brightens but to pass away.
One by one our hopes grow brighter, As we near the shining shore;
For we know across the river, Wait the loved ones gone before."
