HADLEY - Ralph P. Szarkowski, 85, a lifelong Hadley resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at the Overlook at Northampton.
Born on March 8, 1925, in North Hadley he was the son of the late Andrew and Constance Szarkowski. Educated in Hadley schools, he was a graduate of Hopkins Academy. Ralph worked all of his life as a master mechanic for Daniel O'Connell & Sons Construction Co. until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed restoring old cars, especially an old Ford truck which had belonged to his father. He loved his two granddaughters and enjoyed watching Caitlin play basketball and Bethany play volleyball.
Ralph is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Rosaline (Kozikowski); his son, Leonard "Lenny" Szarkowski and his wife, Helen Reynolds; his daughter, Susan Stosz and her husband, John; and his two granddaughters, Caitlin and Bethany Stosz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, South Deerfield, with burial following in Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery, South Deerfield. A calling hour will precede Mass from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst.
