WILL W. DALE
EARLY TIMER

Born and Lived Sixty-nine Years at
Westfield A Worthy and
Trusted Citizen.

HIS FATHER, DAVID DALE, CAME
TO WESTFIELD IN 1858.

His Death Came Very Suddenly As
a Result of Heart Trouble.

William Ward Dale, whose death occurred Friday, May 13, was born at Westfield, Poweshiek county, Iowa, December 17, 1858. His father was David Dale who came to Westfield in 1853 and lived on the Dale farm all his life. His mother was Elizabeth Jane Dale.

The deceased man was born and lived all his life at Westfield. His death came very suddenly as a result of heart trouble from which he had suffered some of late years.

December 25th, 1883, he was united in marriage at the Sheridan home of the bride, Electa Ann Alley. Seven sons were born to this union, five of whom are living: Floyd D. of Parral, Mexico; Orville D. of Salina, Kansas; George H. of Deep River, Iowa; Bryan of Ames, Iowa; and Thomas O. of Grinnell who occupies the farm on which his father lived so long and with whom Mr. Dale made his home since the death of Mrs. Dale January 10, 1923.

He also is survived by three sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Eliza Bullock of Grinnell, Mrs. Margaret Rutledge of Irvington, Iowa, and Mrs. Kitty Whitney of Grinnell. The brother is Thomas Dale of Grinnell.

Funeral services were held at Westfield Sunday conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln and the body was laid to rest in the Westfield cemetery. Songs were by Edward E. Lincoln, Miss Ruth Brownell, and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lord: "Shall We Meet Beyond the River," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Saved by Grace."

Bearers were Frank Matteson, Will H. Alley, Richard Thackeray, J.H. Alley, Alfred Howell, and A.M. Burton.

Mr. Dale was one of the oldest of all the residents of this vicinity who was born and who lived in this county. He was of a rugged and outstanding nature, strong in his convictions, firm in his expression of them, and a man of strict integrity and upright life. We always found him a genial companion and a friendly friend. In his association with others he was plain and clear, but honest and always trustworthy. He was a member of a strong active and energetic family who moved to this section when it was yet new and who helped to build up the institutions which have made Iowa thrifty, intelligent, and worthy.

Orville Dale of Salina, Kansas, was present at the funeral as were also Bryan Dale of Ames and G.H. Dale of Deep River.
