William Jackson Coulter

My GG-Grandfather

My great-great-grandfather was the oldest child of William M. and Julia Gordon Coulter. He was the husband of the former Ada "Addie" Carter, who survived. He was also survived by his children Albert, Luther, John and Lawrence Coulter, Gladys Walker, Alice Mumaw and Mary Taylor, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings Charles and Milton Coulter, Lucinda Phillips, Annie Deener and Julia Burkitt.
He lost four children: baby Margaret in 1908, son Clarence and daughter Annie Fry in 1915, and son Ernest in 1927.
He was a farmer. He and his family lived in a big red farm house that stayed in the family many years after he died. It was later occupied by his youngest child, Lawrence. His late niece, Anna Mae Coulter Kelbaugh wrote this to me: "Your great great grandparents were farmers too. They raised cattle, hogs, chickens and grain to feed them. My parents would spend lots of Sunday afternoons with your great great grandfather Will Coulter. They were a close family and always helping each other out. My sister and I would like to ride the pony Uncle Will had. We enjoyed it very much. Uncle Will and Aunt Ada and my parents were always very close."
