'Clayton, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Shan Mauk died in the Hillsdale city hospital of lockjaw. The boy stepped on a rusty nail a week before but the wound had apparently healed when tetanus developed Sunday night. He was eight years old and the funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon and a short service at Shiffler cemetery, where many old neighbors gathered. The Mauk family lived near Pulaski for many years before moving to Pioneer.'
