Son of Aaron and Deborah Kent Hickok. Husband of Polly Oaks Hickok, father of: Heman, Polly, Clarissa, Proxy, David, Sally, Hiram, Leander and James Henry Hickok.

"Polly and James first lived in Pittsfield, Vermont, but left their home for the pioneer settlement of Troy, Pennsylvania".
From the book "Another Man Named Hickok" by Edith Andrews Harmon.

" James Hickok located at Troy Borough in 1809. Upon organization of Bradford County, he opened a hotel which he kept for some years. He also had a fulling-mill and built the first foundry in Troy. He was one of the most prominent and enterprising in the early history of the town. At his death between 1832 and '36, he was survived by his wife Polly and children, Herman R. (Heman), Clarissa M, David N., Sally (Mrs. Moses Coolbaugh), Hiram H., Leander, Polly and James H.".
Excerpt from the "History and Geography of Bradford County" by Clement F. Heverly.

" On Elmira Street, was Capt. Jas. Hickok's mill, where the plaster mill now stands, and his house. He was the father of Leander Hickok: who says that, in the days of his boyhood, it was not unusual in the winter nights to hear the wolves howling on what is now know as Paine's Hill."

"A opinion".... as you can see this person gave no sources that he gave with his findings. I added, for others to do a double check of there own findings.

In stating the parents of James Hickok, the memorial names his mother as Deborah Kent. There is no good basis for this surname, and I have not found it in anything written prior to the writings of Edith Andrews Harmon. As best I can tell, she became confused and combined into a single person Aaron Hickok senior and his wife Deborah (surname unknown), and Aaron Hickok junior and his wife Lois Kent. Of course since then it has spread broadly through online databases, but there is no known evidence for Deborah's parentage. The point is that Edith Harmon got confused and combined two different people, and there is never going to be a record that says the two people are distinct, because it never would have occurred to anyone that they needed to say that the wives of Aaron senior and Aaron junior are different people.
