MERCHANT FOR 50 YEARS DIES AT HOME HERE
JEFFERSON H. DAVIS, 81, LONG IN FURNITURE BUSINESS
Jefferson H. ("Jeff") Davis, 81, retired furniture and paint dealer, died at 5:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon at his home, 513 Barrow street. He had been ill the past eight years.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Vince Davis, Woodson Davis and Robert Davis, all of Moberly; a daughter, Mrs. Chance D. Blaeuer, Washington, D. C.; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Davis, born in Renick, had lived in Moberly 75 years and was in business here nearly 50 years of that time. He first entered the furniture business in the present location of the Forney Furniture Store, moving later to Highway 63 South. That building was destroyed by fire and he then moved to the 200 block on West Coates street. He retired about 10 years ago.
He served as a member of the board of education for several years. He was a member of First Christian Church and of the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine and Knights Templar.
The body is in the Mahan Funeral Parlors, where services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon by his minister, Harvey J. Smith, and the Rev. A. E. Landolt, pastor of the Central Christian Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
