Son of Isaiah Joseph and Jessie (nee Walker) Cordner of the National Bank, Malvern, Victoria. A clerk and a talented VFL player, he played for Geelong (1911-1912) and Collingwood (1913-1914) Football Clubs prior to enlisting on 22 August 1914 he sailed as part of B Company, 6th Battalion, on 19 October 1914, aboard HMAT "Hororata" (A20). He was killed in action, aged 24, shot after being separated from his Battalion at Cape Helles.
