Lorentz Walther served in the Civil War. In the Broadfoot List, he is listed as "Lorenz Walther,Corporal, Company "H", 6th WV Infantry." He was mustered in Oct. 7, 1861. He re-enlisted three times. (age 29, according to the WV Adjutant General's Report, 1864) Most of his records refer to him as "Lawrence" Walther.

Daughter Elizabeth "Lizzie" birth record in 1869 lists Lorenz as a Saloon Keeper. She married Samuel Ruff.
