Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 26, 1946.

George served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J #42-73185, 319th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 28, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-73185 took off on June 18th, with a crew of 10 & 1 passenger, from Mokerang Airfield, Manus Province, Papua New Guinea on a weather reconnaissance flight the Peleliu Island region. Being low of fuel they radioed that they were bailing out north of Papua New Guinea. Only two airmen were picked up and survived.

George was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
