Henry was born in Terry, Montana. He enlisted in the US Army in WWII and attended flight school and was commissioned 1st Lietenant in October 1941. He was assigned to the 3rd Bomber Group, 8th Bomb Squadron and sent to Australia and subsequently to Port Moresby, New Guinea. He was the pilot of an A24 Douglass "Banshee" Dive Bomber #A-41-15798. On April 7, 1942 on a mission to bomb a Japanese airfield he was shot down & listed as MIA. Later he was declared KIA.
