George's remains were identified on April 14, 2016.

A "Rosette" was placed in front of his name here at Manila to signify that his remains were recovered.

George resided in Montana prior to the war.

He became a POW of the Japanese Army in the "Fall Of The Philippines" in May, 1942.

George "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army from illness at Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Camp in the Philippines during the war.

14 soldiers were buried in a common grave, Number 717, by the Japanese at Cabanatuan. All 14 were exhumed and re-interred at Manila as "unknowns" in 1946.

In June 2014 the 14 "unknowns" were exhumed from their grave at Manila for possibly identification.

George's remains were identified as being one of the "unknowns" from Cabanatuan.

He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.

Service # 19019886.

Out of the 14 remains exhumed in June 2014 in Manila the following soldiers have been identified:

NOTIFIED OF DEATH
Hamilton, July 23--The war department notified Homer Simmons of Hamilton Friday that his son, George Simmons, 27, had died in a Japanese prison camp. Simmons, who served in the army from January, 1941, was taken prisoner in the Philippines.
