Napoleon served as a Staff Sergeant, 22nd Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Strafford County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 22, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Single, without dependents.

Napoleon was declared "Missing In Action" during the war and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

On March 19, 1944, on a low level combat mission to Vinh, French Indo China (now Vietnam), the B-25 Mitchell bomber in which S/Sgt. Plante was a crew member, was shot down by enemy ground fire, crashing into a river killing S/Sgt. Plante and all others aboard including: 1st Lt. Thomas J. Smith; 2nd Lt. Robert E. Caldwell; T/Sgt. Charles C. Evans; and S/Sgt. Walter Altman.
