James Marcotte (1919 New Hampshire), a resident of Strafford County, enlisted as a Private (S/N 11015232) in the U.S. Army Air Corps on 08 October 1940 in Concord, New Hampshire. He was single and had been working as a saleman.

Private Marcotte was assigned to the 28th Materiel Squadron, 20th Air Base Group, U.S. Army Air Corps and sent to the Philippine Islands.

He was taken prisoner by the Japanese in the fall of the Philippines in April/May, 1942.

James died on 24 May 1942, a prisoner of the Japanese Army in the Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
