Richard served as a Private First Class, Headquarters Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Sullivan County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 17, 1940, prior to the war, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

He was taken prisoner in the capture of the Bataan Peninsula & Corregidor, Philippine Islands in April & May, 1942.

Richard "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army at POW Camp 1, Cabanatuan, Nueva Province, Luzon, Philippines during the war.

He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.
