Obituary.
Robert Lee Hiatt, S 1-c, U.S.N.R. was born May 3, 1924, near Diller, Nebraska. He was baptized by Rev. Robert C. Drew into the Methodist Church.
He attended Diller High School, receiving his diploma in 1941. Shortly after his graduation he entered the Collier Agency of Omaha, traveling extensively. In January of 1942 he was employed by the Store Kraft Mfg. Co. of Beatrice until his induction on May 22, 1943.
He received his boot training at Camp Farragut, Idaho, and additional training was received at San Diego, California and bremerton, Wash. He had seen service at Saipan and Leyte Gulf. His desire to serve in the Pacific Area was prompted by the wish to aid his brother, Joseph, who is a Japanese prisoner. Notice of his untimely death was received January 13, 1945.
He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hiatt, his brother, Joseph; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Wymore, Mrs. Molly Tieman, Ethel and William of the home; also his finance (sic), Miss Arnita Hattan of Nelson, Nebraska.
His pleasing personality and cheerful nature will be cherished in the meory of his many friends.
Bob attended the Diller High School at the time Mr. Sinkey was superntendent (sic) in the schools there.

Although Robert Lee Hiatt was Buried at Sea he is listed on the Wall of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial.

Gravesite Details
Entered the service from Nebraska. Roberts brother Joe died in October 1944 as a POW of the Japanese.
