Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until November 18, 1945.

Richard served as a Corporal & Gunner on B-25C #41-12491, 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Grafton County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 9, 1941, prior to the war, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a practical nurse and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25C #41-12491, along with 5 other B-25's, took off from 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby on a bombing mission against Lae Airfield near Lae, Papua, New Guinea.

They were was attacked, while returning from their mission, by Japanese A6M2 Zeros causing B-25C #41-12491 to crash near Cape Loena. The order was given to bailout prior to the crash however only two remaining on the plane were still alive.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack during the war.

He as awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
