Robert served as a Motor Machinist's Mate, Second Class, USS Mount Hood (AE-11), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Milton, Strafford County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

Robert died in the "Line Of Duty" when the Mount Hood exploded in Seeadler Harbor while loading ammunition during the war.
