Thomas served as a Seaman, Second Class, USS De Haven (DD-469), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

Thomas enlisted in the Navy on August 7, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was later noted as reporting for duty on September, 21, 1942 to the USS De Haven in Newport, Rhode Island.

Thomas was declared "Missing In Action" when the De Haven was bombed by Japanese Aircraft near Guadalcanal and sunk during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
