Son of Stanley Collins who resided in Edgar, Montana.

Jack served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24D #41-23975, 424th Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Carbon County, Montana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 30, 1941, prior to the war, in Missoula, Montana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #41-23975 took off, with a crew of 9, from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands on a bombing mission against shipping in the Shortland Island, Solomon Islands area.

They were hit & shot down by Naval anti-craft fire and also attacked by Japanese Zeros which caused they to crash into the sea near their target. The entire crew was lost.

Jack was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
