Eugene Herbert Carpenter served as a First Lieutenant, in the 2nd Observation Squadron, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He resided in New Mexico prior to the outbreak of the war. During his military service, he was captured and became a POW of the Japanese army during the "Fall Of The Philippines" in April-May, 1942. Reports show that Eugene "Died while a POW" of the Japanese, at POW Camp, Osaka Main Camp, Chikko, Osaka 34-135, during the war. He was posthumously awarded the Prisoner Of War medal and the Purple Heart medal.
