He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 18, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Machinist and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25D #41-30167 took off, with a crew of 5, from Nadzab, Papua New Guinea on a stike mission over Wakde Airdrome, Wakde Island, Sarmi Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia.

They were seen to hit trees & exploding while on a strafing run over the northern section of Wakde Island. The entire crew was lost.

Charles was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
