Having actually died on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until July 11, 1943.

Jacob served as a Private, 835th Engineer Battalion, Aviation, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hudson County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 3, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, with dependents.

Jacob was a passenger on the troop transport U.S.S. West Point (AP23) that was going from Sydney, Australia to Bombay, India. While on board he was reported by the doctors on board to have died from "Septicemia".

He was buried at sea on Friday, March 12, 1943.
