Norman's remains were recovered in 1946 from a burial at the Rangoon POW camp.

His remains, along with others, were being transported from Rangoon to Calcutta, India by C-47B #43-48308. However this C-47 crashed on this trip on May 17, 1946.

His remains were not recovered from this crash.

Norman served as a Sergeant & Asst. Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24J #42-73312, 374th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Camden County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 5, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-73312 took off on November 27, 1943 from Pandaveswar Airfield, India on a bombing mission over Insein, Myanmar (Burma). About 40 minutes from their target they experienced engine trouble. The entire crew bailed out since the pilot could not rectify the problems with the engine.

The entire crew of 10 became prisoners of the Japanese and were held at the Rangoon POW camp in Myanmar (Burma).

Nine members of the crew survived the war.

Norman "Died While A POW" from malnutrition, beri beri and dysentery.

He was awarded the Air Medal, Purple Heart, and the Prisoner of War medal.
