He was the son of Ernest Rundell Scofield and Clara Faye (Cresap) Scofield.

On November 29, 1942, Scofield was a gunner of B-24D #41-11912, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 436th Bombardment Squadron. They were taking part in a bombing raid on Rangoon, and the plane did not return from the mission.

Scofield was from King County, WA. He received the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Because his body was not recovered, he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing.
