Son of Harry Hill who resided in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee.

James served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-25J #44-29574, 71st Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Blount County, Tennessee prior to the war.

B-25J #44-29574 took off, with a crew of 6, from Lingayen Airfield, Pangasinan, Luzon, Philippines on a strike mission off the coast of Formosa (Taiwan).

They were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and were seen crashing approximately 10 miles off Takao, Formosa. The entire crew was lost.

James was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

James also has a "Cenotaph" in the Arlington Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Tennessee.
