Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until August 10, 1945.

General's remains were found and recovered in 2006. He was interred in the Gollihon Cemetery, Sneedville, Tennessee.

A "Rosette" was placed in front of his name here at Manila to signify that his remains were recovered.

General served as a Seaman First Class, U.S.S. Helena (CL-50), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Tennessee prior to the war.

General was declared "Missing In Action" when the Helena was hit by three Japanese torpedo's and sunk in the Battle of Kula Gulf during the war.

Approximately 150 were lost from the Helena.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
